Multipurpose Terrazo seat and play area. The Project references the existing basalt rocks on the site.

Basalt Sittee functions as a multipurpose seat and play area with coloured hexagonal terrazzo modules at varying heights.

The work references a young woman’s HSC mural painted on a shop wall just down the street which depicts a geometric Cityscape – The project also refers to existing very large basalt rocks on the site. We elected to use the column form of basalt as it was regular and more easily manufactured.

Pebblecrete used terrazzo in ways that had rarely been used before in the fabrication of the hexagonal elements. They elements were fabricated and assembled into the hexagonal shapes and glued to a concrete slab.
